BOWLZY - Waiting Game
Sound Communities CIC (South West)
BOWLZY is an 18-year-old rapper from Devon, Torbay. "The power and impact music has had on my life has been unimaginable," he comments. His mum passed away in 2017 and ever since then BOWLZY has found music to be a therapy tool. The inspiration for Waiting Game was seeing people wanting to do things but always waiting for the right moment or making excuses. He decided to make the song energetic to give them the hype to act and also to plug how far he has come himself so that others might be motivated into action.
EVA - Reaching Out
Youth Music NextGen Fund recipient (South East)
EVA is a 19-year-old singer, songwriter and music producer from Brighton. She has released two self-produced singles, each with accompanying music videos that she self-directed and conceptualised and partly shot. Her debut single Reaching Out, released in April, was played by DJ Target on his BBC 1Xtra show and selected as BBC Introducing’s ‘Track of the Day’. EVA’s second single ‘Daydream Danger’, released in June, made its radio debut on Glastonbury’s official radio station ‘Worthy FM’ where during an interview EVA performed her single live on air. She is currently working on her next release and music video.
Jelia - Each Time You Fall
True Cadence CIC (London)
Each Time You Fall is the debut single from Jelia, a young songwriter from Warsaw, Poland, delivering wise, soulfully poetic lyrics through her iconic vocals and electrifying instrumental. Each Time You Fall is an immersive reflection on a recent love. It soberly articulates the overload of emotions a person can have in that time. It is an incredible fusion of soothing RnB and Indie Pop with vibrant drum breaks reminiscent of the UK dance scene. The collaboration of Jelia and producer Micah Volter brings together two contrasting backgrounds and influences that create a thriving dynamic, showcasing both musicians' revered talent.
Megan Black - Freedom Belongs To Him
Just Bee Productions, Enough Music (Scotland)
Freedom Belongs to Him exists as a unifying call for change. Backed with sultry guitars, a moody, seductive bass line and a vocal choir, Megan questions the freedoms that men in the music industry are freely granted while demanding more representation for women and the queer community. The track is the driver behind Megan’s #FreedomBelongsToUs campaign, where like-minded musicians were asked to join an online campaign supporting freedom and equality for all artists. The song was recorded in a studio with Mark Morrow Audio in Edinburgh alongside a band of session musicians Megan works with.
