Sparking Change! A Soundcastle Bursary Programme for Young Musicians & Facilitators

Calling all East London and Sussex based young musicians!

Are you aged 18-25 years old?
Would you like to have a career in music that includes working in community settings with
early years children and/or families?

Soundcastle’s Sparking Change Programme runs from October 2024 to March 2025 and is an opportunity to build up your CV, widen your industry network, develop your practical skills and learn how to get your own project ideas off the ground.

Full description

Over 6 months (during term time) you will experience:

● Creative skills sessions in music facilitation with a focus on early years (0-5s)
● One-to-one mentoring with two industry professionals
● Two-part training series about the Power of Partnerships
● A training qualification in Mental Health Awareness
● An Introduction to Fundraising
● Signposting to additional opportunities for further experience, training and paid work
● Traineeship, observation and volunteering opportunities within Soundcastle
● Membership to an online space to access resources, event details and connect with
course peers

You will gain:
● A deeper understanding of the community music sector, in particular early years (0-5s)
● Increased skills in creative enterprise, reflective practice and music facilitation
● Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health Qualification
● The opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded young people at a similar stage
of career development

Developing a portfolio career in the music industry will support you to become a resilient career
musician, opening up a wide range of work opportunities that can be adaptable to changing times.
At Soundcastle, we support people facing challenging circumstances through transformational
community music programmes that increase confidence, reduce isolation and enhance wellbeing.
We advocate for facilitator wellbeing, for co-production and for community voice. 

 

Bursary:
We are offering a £600 bursary to successful applicants who complete the full programme.

Options are available to receive part payment half way through.

Timeline:
Please note that all Sparking Change sessions will take place on Thursday mornings from October 2024 until March 2025 so please ensure that you will have consistent availability at this time before applying.

A minimum attendance to 75% of the sessions is required to receive a bursary payment.

You will be invited to attend a 1 to 1 welcome chat before the programme starts on Thursday 3rd October 2024 which can be flexibly arranged.

Any additional attendance to in person Soundcastle
programmes will also be arranged flexibly throughout the six months.
