James Jones
LAB7, Wales
James Jones won the Music Producer Award sponsored by Amazon Music.
James Jones is a 24 year old jazz-infused multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer from Caerphilly, Wales.
His song 'Coconut Beach' won the Music Producer Award sponsored by Amazon Music. It was presented to him by electronic duo, BICEP.
Speaking of the song, James says: “I use loops quite often but I think it's okay to have a collage and then sprinkle some interesting flamenco guitar and jazz violin which is what I tried to do with 'Coconut Beach', the last track on my EP, 'Landscapes'. It sounds very Garage-inspired which is very different for me but I enjoyed it.”
How does it feel to have won?
“It’s was a huge honour to be nominated... we’ve done a lot of work with LAB7 - I’m knackered...but I’m so grateful for the band and to Youth Music. It’s a huge honour.
“I’d like to dedicate it to LAB7, the projects... this one goes to Youth Music and you guys."
'Coconut Beach', 'Escape the City', 'The Lake' are three of your songs - are you inspired by landscapes/nature?
“I’ve never thought about it, I know that sounds silly as that’s exactly what people would think - But yeah I guess so. I mean, it’s funny, when I walk in [to the studio], it wasn’t the original plan, but yeah I guess so. I don’t know how conscious it is, but if you’re looking around.."
