Event: Building Mental Resilience in the Music Industry

A music career can take a toll on your mental health. Join us to learn how to maintain your mental wellbeing through challenging times.

Working in the music industry can really test your resilience. Even when the world is not battling a pandemic, the stark highs and lows, financial insecurity and anti-social working hours can really take their toll.

If you're a performer, composer, sound engineer, or hold any other career in the music industry, join us for this free session to learn how to face these challenges and maintain your mental wellbeing through the tough times.

How will this benefit me?

While the music industry can be fun and rewarding, it also presents real challenges, with long periods of time on the road away from family and friends, physical strain on the body, fierce competition, scrutiny and criticism on social media. These things can have a very real impact on your ability to fully engage with and to enjoy what you do, as well as affecting your mental health. Building the mental resilience to face these challenges will help you keep alive your love for your profession, allowing you to enjoy more fully the amazing parts of working in music and make the most of your career in the long term.

What will happen on the day?

Wellness professional Jack Williamson will introduce you to nine different ways to stay mentally resilient during testing times, providing you with tools and techniques you can implement day-to-day to help you build your own resilience.

The session will take place remotely via Zoom, and the start time listed will be when our waiting room will open - the session will then fully begin 15 minutes later (e.g. event listed at 17:15 for a 17:30 start time, then running for 90 minutes until 19:00).

Who is running these sessions?

We are Help Musicians, a charity that wants a world where musicians thrive. Our recent research showed that tools to help build resilience could be helpful across all sectors of the music industry, so we have teamed up with our expert partners to provide you with tips and techniques you can implement day-to-day to help you build longterm resilience, as an extension of our dedicated mental health service, Music Minds Matter.
