The A Side: A Day in The Life

Big Machine UK is the UK branch of the Nashville based Big Machine Label Group. BMLG comprises four Record labels (Big Machine Records, BMLG Record, Valory Music Company, John Varvatos Records) and promotes Country, rock and pop music in the UK. Established artists on our roster include Sheryl Crow, Lady A, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw and Thomas Rhett. Emerging artists include Badflower, Ayron Jones, Friday Pilots Club and Avenue Beat. At Big Machine, we aim to promote our artists’ music within the UK as well as promoting their individual brands and Country music as a genre. As a team of 3 (4 including this role) we work across many departments, fulfilling the marketing, sales, promotions and digital needs of the label. The culture of Big Machine UK is very much ‘all hands on deck’ and there is opportunity to get a full overview of how a label functions. As a small team, we are very connected and encourage participation in all aspects of label life. The Label Intern role is required to assist the UK team across all aspects of the release cycle, with particular focus on marketing and specialist press.

 

The B Side: Skills & Experience


Main Purpose of the Role

  • General administration for the UK label including arranging local & intl travel, couriers & event co-ordination and scheduling meetings for the team
  • Support the Head of UK and Marketing Manager in ad hoc duties with a focus on marketing and specialist press
  • Arrange and coordinate phone interviews
  • Create promo schedules and help facilitate face to face promo
  • Handle all payments through internal system ‘Uniport’. Including creating budgets, coding requisitions, following through to payment and updating the internal finance sheets
  • Attend gigs, label meetings & promo appearances where required as a representative of BMLG
  • Co-ordinate ticket orders and guest lists for internal and external staff & contacts
  • Ordering and distributing CD and vinyl stock to contacts
  • Manage the UK release schedule, distributing it weekly to the internal teams and working with the international team to make sure all production deadlines are met as per the release schedule
  • Request and deliver all audio requests for the wider UK team, register new audio at radio monitor and OCC and set up PlayMPE blasts/co-ordinating CD-R samplers where necessary
  • Update and maintain the one sheets and project updates as well as circulating artist sales updates weekly
  • Build good working relationships with externals, US team, managers and artists

Necessary

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise and multi-task responsibilities and requests
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confident using Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Office
  • Hard working, self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Team player
  • Passionate about music

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Specific knowledge of Country and/or Rock music
  • Driven to pursue a career in music
  • Confident with relationship building.
